Description

This Vintage 1980s Javelin Asparagus Crate Label, made by Pacific Earth Resources out of Camarillo, California, is a significant piece of history. It represents the final years of the asparagus crate label era, making it a unique and valuable collectible.

9 1/2 " x 9 1/2" ~ little to no wear. This is an uncommon label and one of the latest examples ever to adorn a crate—such unique memorabilia.

The design of vintage asparagus crate labels, often as trapezoids to fit the slanted sides of the wooden crates, was a marvel of practical design and marketing flair. The unique shape ensured the labels adhered neatly without wrinkles or folds, maintaining their aesthetic appeal and clear readability. The intricate artwork and vibrant colors used in these labels made them stand out on store shelves, a testament to their creators' craftsmanship and marketing ingenuity that you can't help but appreciate.

The javelin throw was added to the Ancient Olympic Games as part of the pentathlon in 708 BC. The javelin throw at the Summer Olympics is one of four track and field throwing events held at the multi-sport event. The men's javelin throw has been present in the Olympic athletics program since 1908, being the last of the current throwing events to feature at the Olympics after the shot put, discus throw, and hammer throw. The women's event was first contested at the 1932 Olympics, becoming the second women's throws event after the discus in 1928.
