Rare Vintage Cherry Smash Bottle Cap, Richmond, Arlington, Virginia 1960s

Cherry Smash has a very interesting history. It was started in 1901 in Richmond and moved to Arlington in 1920. They took advantage of the advent of the soda fountain and this American iconic company was the #2 Soda in the Country besides Coca-Cola at the time earning the nickname "Our Nations Beverage". They even had a minor league team out of Richmond they sponsored in the early 1900s.

Cherry Smash unfortunately stopped being manufactured in the 1960s. The advent of the plastic-lined cap took over at the same time. What makes these events especially interesting is the fact that Cherry Smash really concentrated on making gallon-sized containers at this time and bottling soda bottles was a fraction of their business and they soon ceased operations. None of these caps are common for bottle caps but this is one of the uncommon cases where the plastic-lined ones are rarer than the cork-lined ones.
