Description

The vintage 1970s Nesbitt's Strawberry Soda Bottle Cap, a product of the 7up Bottling plant in Hagerstown, Maryland, holds a significant place in the history of soda. This cap, with its unique design featuring a vibrant strawberry illustration and the iconic Nesbitt's logo, and its association with a renowned bottling plant, American Crown Bottling, an American Icon, makes this very special and represents an era of innovation and growth in the soda industry.

Nesbitt's, a brand that carries the legacy of the Nesbitt Fruit Products Company of Los Angeles, California, founded in 1924 by Hugh S. Nesbitt, is a significant part of soda history. The brand debuted in 1927 as part of the company's soda fountain products, and its orange soda and other flavors like grape, strawberry, and peach, bottled in the late 1930s, have left an indelible mark on the industry.

During the late 1940s and 1950s, Nesbitt's became the market leader in orange soda in the U.S., even featuring advertisements with a young Marilyn Monroe! However, its popularity waned in the late 1960s with the rise of Fanta. The company was sold to The Clorox Company in 1972, and the bottling operation was sold to Moxie Industries in 1975.

Today, Nesbitt's brand is owned by Big Red Ltd, which licenses the brand to several small independent bottling companies. Nesbitt's Orange Soda is still available in select regional markets.

The American Crown Bottling Company has a rich history! The company was initially known as the Ohio Bottle Company, founded in 1904 by Edward H. Everett. It was one of the first significant glass conglomerates in the U.S. The American Bottle Company was a pioneer in small-mouth bottle production for beer and soda bottles. They introduced date codes on bottles in 1906 to track the number of round trips made by returnable bottles.

Two iconic Americana in one unique collectible!
