Every one hangs on its own hot-pink cord. The lid carries a yellow sticker - a round-faced cartoon chef in a tall white hat, red shoes flying, running with a hamburger, and JUMBO BURGER in red-orange letters across the diagonal. That's the only printing on it. Pick a set of 10 or 20 and you get a mix of body colors - yellow, orange, blue, purple, hot pink - open the lid and there's room inside for something very small. The hinge is a delicate little thing, so open it gently.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003e🐘 Why \"Jumbo\"\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEvery jumbo burger, jumbo shrimp and jumbo jet owes its name to one elephant. Jumbo was born around Christmas 1860 in Sudan - his mother killed by poachers - and arrived at the London Zoo on June 26, 1865, where he spent years giving rides to children, Queen Victoria's among them. In 1882 the zoo's superintendent, Abraham Bartlett, sold him to the American showman P.T. Barnum for £2,000, about $10,000 at the time. Britain took it hard: the story goes that 100,000 schoolchildren wrote to Queen Victoria begging her to stop the sale, and the critic John Ruskin called it \"disgraceful to the city of London.\" Jumbo sailed anyway, landed in New York that March, and Barnum had his money back within three weeks at Madison Square Garden - the season that followed took in $1.75 million. Jumbo died on September 15, 1885, struck by a freight train in the rail yard at St. Thomas, Ontario. His name outlived him: \"jumbo\" became everyday English for anything oversized, which is exactly the joke of a Jumbo Burger small enough to wear on a string.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003e🎈 A Bell-Charm Kid in the Mid-1980s\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis little box belongs to the bell-charm craze that took over schoolyards in the mid-1980s - small plastic charms shaped like telephones, sneakers, soda cans and food, clipped onto chain-link necklaces, belt loops, house keys and backpack zippers. Kids traded them hard enough, and the jingling got loud enough, that some schools banned them outright. Food shapes were part of that mix, and a hinged box like this one, with its own little hiding spot inside, gave a kid one more reason to want it.
