Clear pressed glass, heavy in the hand, and every one of them sparkles when the light hits it. There are three to choose from, and you pick yours from the menu:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eShot Glass\u003c\/strong\u003e: straight sided and covered in hobnails, with smooth rings at the top and bottom. It doubles as a toothpick holder on the kitchen table.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eJuice Glass\u003c\/strong\u003e: a footed hobnail glass on a short stem, with a round foot pressed in a sunburst of rays underneath.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eMini Beer Mug\u003c\/strong\u003e: a tiny thick-walled mug with a loop handle and tall panels around the base, just the thing for a shot.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere's no maker's mark on the glass, and there doesn't need to be. The juice glass is Hocking's own Hobnail, the same fine rings under the rim, pointed hobs and rayed foot as the rest of the Hocking pieces I have, and the shot glass and the little mug are from the same Hocking series. Hocking pressed its clear Hobnail line from 1934 to 1936, right in the middle of the Depression, so these are better than ninety years old.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003e💧 Dewdrops and Hobnails\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHobnail glass goes back to 1886, when an artist at Hobbs, Brockunier and Company of Wheeling, West Virginia developed it, pressing the glass into a mold studded with knobs and then hand-blowing and shaping the piece. The Victorians called it Dew Drop glass. Today we call it hobnail, because the raised knobs look like the hobnail studs on old boot soles, and plenty of glassmakers went on to make their own versions.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003e⚓ Anchor Hocking of Lancaster, Ohio\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnchor Hocking started as the Hocking Glass Company, founded in 1905 by Isaac J. Collins in Lancaster, Ohio, and named for the Hocking River. It was one of the great makers of Depression glass, including a clear Hobnail pattern in the mid-1930s, and in 1937 it merged with the Anchor Cap and Closure Corporation to become Anchor Hocking. Royal Ruby, Fire-King and Forest Green are all Anchor Hocking lines, and the Lancaster plant has been running since 1905.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003e🖼️ Display\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLine them up on a bar cart, use the juice glass for a small pour of orange juice at breakfast, or set the mini mug out for a shot at the next get-together.
