This beautiful antique vintage McCurdy Crate Label, made by Sweetbrier Orchards in the 1950s, celebrates San Jose's famed Lick Observatory and its legendary contributions to the field of astronomy. A unique piece of history, this label celebrates a turning point in modern astronomy with its trademark bold colors and lettering.🔭
Perfect for stargazers, historians, and anyone looking to add a mood of inspiration and magic to their home, this piece will remind you that the world is filled with astounding beauty and knowledge that is just waiting to be discovered! Don't miss out on your chance to add a piece of history to your life.
10 1/2 x 7 1/2" ~ I only have a few of these.
Lick Observatory was the world's first permanently occupied mountaintop observatory, constructed from 1876 to 1887 as the last wishes of James Lick (1796 – 1876), who gave $700,000 (approximately $35 million in 2022 dollars). James Lick was buried under the future site of the telescope.
Crate Labels are a reminder of a bygone era, but the amazing lithography process is unparalleled even to this day, in my opinion. Museums and Art Institutes have galleries dedicated to them, and more and more collectors are seeking them out to preserve their history. Once the limited supply for sale is gone and on display with collectors or in galleries, they will be very difficult to acquire.
Imagine this amazing vintage advertising hanging as home decor in any room of your home instead of a museum!
