Showtime gold, the color of a franchise with more championship history than almost any team in professional sports — and signed by a player who was not drafted at all, who turned down a second-round selection to sign with the Lakers as a free agent, and who built himself into one of the most improbable and beloved success stories on the roster. He began his college career at Wichita State before transferring to the University of Oklahoma, where he became the first player in Sooners history to lead the team in points, rebounds, and assists in the same season. Despite that production, NBA teams passed on him entirely in the 2021 draft.

🏆 Undrafted — Turning Down a Second-Round Pick — Signing With the Lakers

Rather than accept a second-round selection from another franchise, Austin Reaves chose to go undrafted and sign a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers on August 3, 2021 — a calculated bet on himself and on the opportunity to develop in a major market with a historic franchise. He made the most of it, growing from a two-way roster spot into a full-time rotation player and then into one of the most productive young guards on the team, recording the first triple-double of his career in April 2022 with 31 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists in an overtime win over Denver.

⭐ The 185 Million Dollar Extension — The Richest Contract in NBA History for an Undrafted Player

On June 24, 2026, Austin Reaves signed a four-year, $185 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers — the richest deal in NBA history for a player who went undrafted, a figure that stands as one of the great modern validations of self-belief and continuous improvement in professional basketball. The Lakers gold signed by Reaves and authenticated by Beckett BAS is a piece of one of the league's most compelling underdog stories, still being written. Your frame. Your wall.
