Really nicely made item, with a clear body and a white string. The blue side carries the fine print: \u003cem\u003eWARNING: CHOKING HAZARD - Small parts. Not for children under 3 years.\u003c\/em\u003e, a CE mark, the no-under-3 symbol, the ASTM toy-safety code \u003cem\u003e963-96A\u003c\/em\u003e, and \u003cem\u003eMade in China\u003c\/em\u003e, which is molded on the rim too.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat code helps date it. ASTM F963 is the U.S. toy safety standard, first written in 1986, and 96a is its 1996 revision, so this yo-yo was made after that, right in the run-up to Y2K. And M\u0026amp;M's had a Y2K angle all their own: MM is the Roman numeral for 2000, so from 1998 Mars billed them as \"The Official Candy of the New Millennium.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003e🍫 The two M's\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eM\u0026amp;M's started in the United States in 1941 and have been sold all over the world. The story goes that \u003cstrong\u003eForrest Mars\u003c\/strong\u003e saw soldiers in the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) eating chocolate in a hard sugar shell so it wouldn't melt in the heat. He got his own patent on March 3, 1941 and went into partnership with \u003cstrong\u003eBruce Murrie\u003c\/strong\u003e, and that's the two M's: Mars and Murrie. The first factory was in Newark, New Jersey, and during World War II the candies were sold only to the military. The little \"m\" went onto every candy in black in 1950 and turned white in 1954, and the famous line, \"melts in your mouth, not in your hand,\" goes back to 1949 and is still nostalgic to this day.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe blue on this yo-yo is a newer arrival than you'd think. Blue M\u0026amp;M's only joined the bag in late 1995, after fans voted it in over pink and purple to replace tan.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003e🏭 The Mars family\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs of 2022 Mars was ranked the fourth-largest privately held company in the United States by Forbes, and unusually these days it's still entirely owned by the Mars family. \u003cstrong\u003eFranklin Clarence Mars\u003c\/strong\u003e started the Mars Candy Factory in 1911 with \u003cstrong\u003eEthel V. Mars\u003c\/strong\u003e, his second wife, in Tacoma, Washington, before moving the company to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
