He won the Heisman Trophy in 1963 as a junior, one of the rare Heisman winners whose selection was met with virtually universal agreement. But Annapolis carries a commitment that NFL money cannot fast-forward: Staubach fulfilled his military service obligation after graduation, serving as a supply officer in Vietnam before his discharge, and the Dallas Cowboys waited. He finally arrived in their backfield in 1969 at age 27 – years later than nearly every other player drafted in the same period – and still managed to play eleven NFL seasons, all in Dallas. The 1972 Topps set captures him at card #200 in the sequence – documentation from a period when the Cowboys dynasty was being assembled, and Staubach was establishing himself as the quarterback who made it work. Condition: NOS.

🏈 The 1971 Dallas Cowboys season – documented in these 1972 Topps cards – was when Staubach fully emerged as the starting quarterback and led Dallas to a 11-3 regular season record, through the NFC playoffs, and into Super Bowl VI at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans. The Cowboys defeated the Miami Dolphins 24-3, and Staubach won Super Bowl MVP honors. He added a second Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl XII, a 27-10 victory over the Denver Broncos in January 1978. Two championships, two Super Bowl appearances anchored by Staubach under center. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985, and PSA graded this 1972 Topps example at 5 Excellent – a clean, authentic vintage card from the era when the Cowboys' dynasty was being built one game at a time.
