1944 – Founding and Incorporation Valley Growers & Packers filed its Articles of Incorporation as a California agricultural cooperative on August 18, 1944. The cooperative was established to provide local growers with collective processing, packing, and marketing services, thereby reducing their reliance on brokers and offering members a more direct route to wholesale markets.

1950s–1960s – Early Expansion: In its first decade, the cooperative focused on acquiring basic packing equipment and cold‐storage capacity. Within five years, Valley Growers & Packers had added a second packing line and expanded refrigerated warehouse space to meet growing demand from California's Central Coast growers.

1970s – Facility Modernization: Responding to industry trends, the cooperative invested in automated sorting and grading equipment. This included its first mechanical washer and a series of conveyors to increase throughput and ensure more uniform pack quality.

1980s – Cold Chain Enhancement: Valley Growers & Packers installed a state-of-the-art blast‐chiller to rapidly cool packed produce, bolstering shelf life and opening new markets in higher‐temperature regions.

1990s – Leadership Transition: Longtime manager Larry Silva joined the board as President, bringing fresh perspectives on marketing and member services. Under his leadership, the cooperative broadened its membership base and installed computerized inventory and lot-tracking systems.

2000s – Supply-Chain Integration: The cooperative began sourcing equipment upgrades through its members' pooled buying power. It also implemented a standardized Lot Number system to enhance traceability from farm to retailer.

2010s – Current Leadership: Clint Silva, a third-generation grower and son of Larry Silva, was elected President. The cooperative now serves over 150 growers across Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and northern Ventura counties, offering shared services in packing, cold storage, and logistics.
