Sun Drop Vintage Bottle Cap
Discover a piece of nostalgia with this Vintage Sun Drop Bottle Cap originally owned by Dr. Pepper Bottling Company in Plano, Texas and bottled in West Jefferson, North Carolina in the 1980s. During this time, two different caps were used: one green and one yellow, each with a unique taste. It is rumored that one cap was closer to the original formula, which included ingredients like Glycerol Ester of Wood Rosin, while the other featured a new recipe.
From the 1970s to the early 1990s, NASCAR Winston Cup driver Dale Earnhardt promoted this drink throughout the American South. Many still fondly remember the iconic Sun Drop Car associated with this promotion.
Sun Drop brand was originally developed in St. Louis, Mo., in 1949 by Charles Lazier. Over the years, the brand was passed from Crush to Cadbury Schweppes plc, but it has maintained a devoted following. Sun Drop has even been known to be smuggled to areas where it is not distributed and shipped to military personnel craving a taste of home.
This particular vintage bottle cap was found in an old bottling plant in Jefferson, NC in the 1990s. Sun Drop is described as an "exhilarating citrus soda" made with spring water and orange juice, containing more caffeine than Mountain Dew.
In fact, Sun Drop is even the official drink of the nationally recognized "Fancy Farm Picnic" in Fancy Farm, Kentucky.
