In the decades after the war, \"Made in Japan\" flatware, brassware and china poured into American homes, and a plain JAPAN stamp on a gold-tone set like this is that whole export story told in one small mark. Most of Japan's export cutlery came out of Tsubame, in Niigata, where metal workers turned out Western-style forks and spoons by the crate, and that flood of well-made, affordable Japanese goods reshaped what sat on a lot of American tables.
