The Pennsylvania Railroad Company, also known as the Pennsy, was once a major player in American history, dominating the Northeast rail network and becoming the largest corporation in the world by the 1920s. The Pennsy merged with its rival, New York Central Railroad, in 1968, forming the Penn Central Transportation Company, but struggled and went bankrupt within two years. Its assets were eventually acquired by Consolidated Rail Corporation, or Conrail, which was later split between Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX Transportation.
