🏛️ Authentic Early‑1900s Riggs National Bank Check
Issued in Washington, D.C. between the 1900s and 1924, this is a genuine circulated check from Riggs National Bank, one of the most powerful and influential financial institutions in American history.

Founded as Corcoran & Riggs, the bank rose to national prominence during the Civil War and became the financial backbone of the U.S. capital. Riggs handled major U.S. Government transactions and served as the personal bank for 23 U.S. Presidents, including Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Richard Nixon.

🏦 A Bank Important Enough to Appear on U.S. Currency
Riggs National Bank’s headquarters was featured on the reverse of the U.S. $10 bill from 1929 to 1953 — a rare distinction that underscored its central role in American finance and government. Few private institutions were ever granted that level of national recognition.

🌎 Trusted by Leaders & Institutions
Riggs National Bank was relied upon by:
• U.S. Presidents and Cabinet members
• Foreign embassies and diplomats
• Historic figures such as Clara Barton, Susan B. Anthony, and Douglas MacArthur

🕰️ Circulated Historical Document
Each check was written, signed, processed, and perforated as part of normal banking operations in Washington, D.C. These are authentic circulated documents, preserved far better than most paper ephemera of their era.

✒️ Signed by Hand — Each One Unique
Every Riggs National Bank check was personally handwritten and signed by an individual conducting real business at the height of American political and financial power.

These signatures are not printed names or mechanical marks. They reflect the pride, discipline, and penmanship of an era when handwriting carried authority and personal responsibility. Each name represents a different person — a different decision — frozen in ink more than a century ago.

No two checks are the same. Dates, amounts, handwriting styles, and signatures all vary, making each example a singular historical artifact rather than a generic document.

📏 Two Sizes
Large: 7¾" × 2¾"
Small: 6½" × 2¾"

🏛️ Why This Matters
Riggs National Bank famously described itself as “the most important bank in the most important city in the world.” Its influence shaped federal finance, diplomacy, and presidential history for generations.

These checks survive only because they were preserved rather than discarded — a rare outcome for everyday financial documents that were never meant to last.

This is true American institutional and human history, preserved on paper.
