Discover a truly unique piece of history with this rare Vintage 1920s Denatured Alcohol Label, crafted by the esteemed Lents Pharmacy from Portland, Oregon. Situated in the city's northwest corner of 92nd and Foster St., Lents Pharmacy was a beacon of pharmaceutical innovation in its time.

2 1/2" x 1 1/2" ~ little to no wear

The most common additive to denatured alcohol is 5 to 10 percent methanol. Methanol is highly toxic when consumed orally. Studies have reported deaths in people consuming as little as 0.5 ounces of 40-percent methanol. Denatured alcohol was commonly kept in hospital medical stores. It was found to be helpful in resuscitating patients who had fainted. However, the revival was likely due to the unpleasant choking sensation caused by having liquid poured down their mouth rather than the pharmacological effects of alcohol. This was also prescribed by many doctors who might prescribe “spts frumenti” or some other issue including the cold or flu.

Pharmacy labels have become hugely collectible; therefore, you only see the rare and unique ones, often called quack ones very rarely.

I have hundreds of pharmacy labels to list, but just going through the first few, I am surprised we made it this long as a human race.

Imagine the allure of this antique advertising label adorning your wall, a unique piece of home decor that tells a story. Its vintage charm and historical significance make it a treasure for any antique decor collection, promising to elevate your space with its unique character.
