American tobacco companies were among the first and most prolific users of high-quality commercial printing — and the labels they produced from the 1880s through the mid-20th century represent some of the finest chromolithographic work in the history of paper ephemera. 🚬 Original Antique & Vintage Tobacco Labels is a focused archive of original printed labels from American and imported tobacco products.

The collection spans the full visual vocabulary of tobacco labeling: gold-embossed Victorian cigar box labels featuring mythological scenes, frontier heroes, and allegorical imagery; flat-printed cigar band and box labels from turn-of-the-century printers; cigarette and cut tobacco packaging labels from the major brand era; plug tobacco labels and tin tags from the rural Southern chewing tobacco tradition; and specialty tobacco labels from regional producers that no longer exist. Many of these pieces survived as NOS stock that was never fully used, preserving their color and paper quality across more than a century. 🎨
