Step into the past with this vintage 1950s - 1960s Home Insurance Company Stock Certificate, a tangible piece of history.

11" x 7"  ~  Little to no wear.

Only a handful of these special stock certificates have been discovered, making them a truly exclusive find. Two of them, with a slight edge discoloration, will be the last to be sold.

The Home Insurance Company, founded in 1853, is the 23rd-largest property and casualty company in the United States. It provides virtually all lines of insurance, with the bulk of its business being industrial property insurance and liability for large accounts. The company has a rich history, having undergone numerous changes that have significantly shaped the modern property and casualty insurance landscape.

When Home was founded in 1853, insurance was very different from what it is today. Property owners purchased insurance to hedge the risk of loss. Claims were not expected to cover more than the value of the lost property and sometimes covered less. Only a few types of insurance were available, and insurance companies were generally limited in their coverage. Indeed, many merchants had trouble getting enough protection for their property. To help solve this problem, a group of New York City merchants established The Home Insurance Company. The paid-in capital was $500,000, which was significant for an insurance company.

Imagine enhancing your living space with this rare vintage collectible, a unique piece of home decor for any room! Stock certificates, like this one, are a scarce commodity. They become increasingly difficult to acquire once they enter museums and private collections. These certificates are not just pieces of paper but historical artifacts, each with a unique story. The first stock certificate was issued in 1606 by the Dutch East India Company. Four hundred-seven years later, the Walt Disney Company issued one of the last paper stock certificates from a major corporation in 2013, marking the end of an era. With such limited availability, this is a unique and privileged opportunity to own a piece of history.

My photographs can only capture a fraction of the beauty of these stock certificates. They were meticulously printed on heavy paper stock, similar to a dollar bill but stiffer and more durable, ensuring their vibrancy and newness for a long time. This unique feature, coupled with the variety of exciting signatures they bear, from the company President and Secretary to other historical figures, adds significant provenance and value to an already valuable item. The paper's weight, the ink's vibrancy, and the signatures' historical significance all contribute to this item's worth.
