Paul Coffey redefined what an offensive defenseman could be in the NHL, combining blistering skating speed with elite puck-handling to rack up point totals that had rarely been seen from the blue line. After winning multiple Stanley Cups alongside Wayne Gretzky as part of the dynasty Edmonton Oilers of the 1980s, Coffey brought that same offensive firepower to the Pittsburgh Penguins, helping the franchise capture a Stanley Cup championship in 1991 alongside Mario Lemieux.
