Signed by Anfernee Penny Hardaway — the Memphis kid, the Magic alternate jersey, the player whose trajectory changed when a knee betrayed him and whose resilience in the face of that change became its own story. Authenticated by PSA/DNA. Framed at 35x39. Wall-ready to hang today.

🌟 Memphis, Tennessee — Shelby County — The Foundation

Anfernee Penny Hardaway was born July 18, 1971, in Memphis, Tennessee — in Shelby County, the city of Beale Street and the Mississippi River delta, the city where the blues and the soul of American music were born and where basketball became a language. Raised primarily by his grandmother Louise Hardaway, who gave him her last name and the nickname Penny that would follow him his entire life, he grew up in Memphis's urban landscape with a basketball that felt like an extension of his body. He went to Memphis State (now University of Memphis), navigating the academic requirements that held him out his freshman year before he arrived on campus and immediately showed the talent that scouts could not ignore. When the 1993 NBA Draft came, he was selected 3rd overall — and then immediately traded to the Orlando Magic, where he joined Shaquille O'Neal and changed what anyone thought a point guard could be.

The Black Pinstripe — The Alternate — A Different Dimension of a Magic Legend

The Orlando Magic's black alternate uniform was a departure from the classic blue pinstripe that fans most associate with the Shaq-and-Penny era — a darker, bolder look that captured a different dimension of the franchise. Penny Hardaway wearing the black pinstripe was still the same 6-foot-7 point guard with the handle of a shorter man and the vision of a veteran twice his age, the same player who had gone to four NBA All-Star Games (1995, 1996, 1997, 2000) and helped take the Magic to the 1995 NBA Finals against the Houston Rockets. But the black alternate carries its own identity — the collector who wants something different, something that steps outside the most-expected icon and finds the less-traveled layer of the legend.

💔 The Knee — The Injury — The What-Could-Have-Been

The conversation around Penny Hardaway's career always returns to the knee injury that struck him in 1997 — a patellar tendon injury that disrupted the peak years of what had been one of the most spectacular young careers in the history of the point guard position. Before it, he was an All-NBA player, arguably the second-best player in the Eastern Conference. After a series of injuries and surgeries and rehabilitation stints, he was different — still capable, still capable of flashes, but never again the sustained dominant force. It is one of the great what-if stories in basketball: what would the prime years of a healthy Penny Hardaway have looked like? The signed Black Pinstripe Magic jersey, authenticated by PSA/DNA, is a piece of that story — the alternate jersey of the player who gave Orlando its most exciting era and who, despite everything that happened afterward, remained one of the sport's most treasured figures.
