The Seattle Mariners blue. The jersey of the Pacific Northwest franchise on the shores of Puget Sound — a team that has produced some of the most beloved players in the modern game without yet reaching the World Series, a team whose fans are loyal and passionate and who in the summer of 2012 witnessed something that only 22 pitchers in the entire history of Major League Baseball had accomplished before it. Signed by Felix Hernandez — King Felix — the Venezuelan right-hander from Valencia who signed with the Mariners at 16, made his major league debut at 19, and spent 15 years entirely in Seattle building one of the great one-club careers in baseball history. Authenticated by JSA. Framed at 35x39. Wall-ready to hang today.

🌟 Valencia, Carabobo, Venezuela — Signed at 16 — The King Arrives

Felix Abraham Hernandez Garcia was born April 8, 1986, in Valencia, Venezuela — the industrial capital of Carabobo state, one of the most productive regions for baseball talent in Latin America, a city that has sent dozens of players to the major leagues. He was signed by the Seattle Mariners at the age of 16 and came through their system with the kind of velocity, movement, and mature pitching arsenal that made scouts believe they had something exceptional. He made his major league debut on August 4, 2005 — 19 years old. He was so good immediately, and so dominant, that the word "King" attached itself to him before most of his teammates were even born.

🏆 2010 AL Cy Young Award — The First Winner with a Losing Record in the Live Ball Era

In 2010, Felix Hernandez went 13-12 — a winning percentage under .500. He should not have won the Cy Young Award, by the traditional metric of wins and losses. But wins are a team statistic, and the Mariners scored runs poorly that season, and when baseball writers and advanced statisticians looked at what Hernandez actually did that year, they saw a pitcher who posted a 2.27 ERA over 249.2 innings with 232 strikeouts and a season that was historically excellent. He won the Cy Young Award — the first time in the live ball era that a pitcher with a losing record won the honor. It was one of the most significant moments in the evolution of how baseball evaluates pitching performance, and it happened to one of the most deserving pitchers of his generation.

August 15, 2012 — Perfect Game — Safeco Field — 27 Consecutive Outs

August 15, 2012. Safeco Field, Seattle. Felix Hernandez vs. the Tampa Bay Rays. By the seventh inning, the crowd knew something was happening. By the ninth, they were standing on their feet on every pitch. At 12:17 PM Pacific Time, Felix Hernandez struck out Sean Rodriguez for the final out — the 27th consecutive Rays batter to make an out. No hits. No walks. No errors. A perfect game. The 23rd in MLB history. The 3rd in the 2012 season alone. The first and only perfect game in Seattle Mariners franchise history. The crowd at Safeco erupted in the kind of celebration reserved for moments that fans know they will tell their grandchildren about. King Felix had done the impossible. Signed on the Mariners blue. Framed at 35x39. Authenticated by JSA. Hang it today.
