Signed by Ron Hextall — the goalie who played the position in a way that no one before him had attempted, who won the Vezina Trophy and the Conn Smythe Trophy in the same season and changed what anyone believed a goaltender could be. Authenticated by JSA. Framed at 35x39. Wall-ready to hang today.

🌟 Brandon, Manitoba — A Hockey Dynasty Family — Ron Hextall and the Hextall Name

Ron Hextall was born May 3, 1964, in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada — a prairie city where hockey is not entertainment but lifestyle, where winter is long and the rink is the center of the community. But Hextall's connection to hockey runs deeper than geography. His grandfather was Bryan Hextall Sr. — a right wing for the New York Rangers who was so dominant that he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. His father, Bryan Hextall Jr., played in the NHL. His uncle Dennis Hextall played in the NHL. The hockey genes ran through the family like a river. Ron Hextall grew up not just surrounded by the sport but surrounded by expectations that came with the Hextall name — and he more than met them.

🏆 The 1986-87 Philadelphia Flyers — Vezina Trophy — Conn Smythe Trophy

Ron Hextall made his NHL debut in 1986-87 with the Philadelphia Flyers and was immediately one of the most dominant and distinctive goalies in the league. He won the Vezina Trophy that season — the award for the NHL's best goaltender — and led the Flyers to the Stanley Cup Finals against the Edmonton Oilers dynasty. In the Finals, the Flyers lost to Edmonton, but Hextall won the Conn Smythe Trophy — the award for the most valuable player in the playoffs — despite being on the losing team. He is one of a very small number of players to win the Conn Smythe Trophy for the losing team in a Stanley Cup Final, a recognition of just how extraordinary his performance had been in the postseason. The Flyers faithful at the Spectrum knew they had a generational goalie.

First NHL Goalie to Score — December 8, 1987 — Against the Boston Bruins

On December 8, 1987, at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, Ron Hextall became the first goalie in NHL history to deliberately shoot the puck into the opposing net and score a goal. With the Flyers leading the Boston Bruins late in a game with the Bruins' net empty, Hextall took possession of the puck behind his own net, skated a step forward, and shot it the length of the ice into the empty Bruins goal. The building erupted. Hextall had done what goalies simply did not do — he scored. He also became the first goalie to score a goal in an NHL playoff game, accomplishing this on April 11, 1989, against the Washington Capitals. His stickhandling ability, his puck-handling range, and his aggressive physical play — which included slashing forwards who encroached on his crease — made him one of the most unique players the position has ever produced. JSA authenticated. Framed at 35x39. Hang it today.
