Description

🏈 Graded 1989 Pro Set Rod Woodson #354 Rookie RC Football Card PSA 10 Gem Mint – The Perfect-Grade PSA 10 Gem Mint Early-Career Card of Rod Woodson, the Pro Football Hall of Fame Cornerback and Safety Who Became One of the Greatest Defensive Backs in NFL History, from His First Years as a Pittsburgh Steeler When the Foundation of a Hall of Fame Career Was Already Unmistakably Visible

🏈 PSA 10. Gem Mint. Four criteria evaluated on every submission, and on a 1989 card – a year when the print-and-cut consistency of major card manufacturers varied enough that centering and edge sharpness were genuine variables rather than guarantees – the PSA 10 designation carries real weight. Cards from the late 1980s and early 1990s saw production quality that produced more PSA 8s and 9s than 10s from any given run, making the Gem Mint grade on a card from this era something the hobby recognizes as genuinely scarce. This Rod Woodson Pro Set #354 cleared all four of those hurdles perfectly. 🏈

🏈 Pro Set entered the football card market in 1989 as a new competitor challenging the established dominance of Topps and the emerging presence of Score, producing a set that featured a wider roster of players than competitors were showing at the time and giving collectors cards of players who had never appeared in the hobby before. For Woodson, the 1989 Pro Set represents one of his earliest major-set cards, arriving during the seasons when his play was already making clear that the Pittsburgh Steelers had selected one of the NFL's most gifted defensive backs with the 10th overall pick in 1987. 🎴

🏈 Rod Woodson was born March 10, 1965, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and played college football at Purdue University, where he was an All-Big Ten and All-American performer and demonstrated the combination of athleticism, football intelligence, and physical toughness that would define his NFL career. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected him with the 10th overall pick in the 1987 NFL Draft, and Woodson joined a Pittsburgh defense that had been one of the most celebrated in the history of professional football during the Steel Curtain era of the 1970s and was rebuilding its reputation as one of the AFC's premier defensive units. 🏈

🏈 What Woodson gave the Steelers went well beyond what most cornerbacks contribute. He was a physical press corner who could shut down the opposing team's top receiver, a return specialist who threatened to score every time he touched the ball on a kick return, and an athlete whose range and closing speed made him a factor on any play from any position on the field. Eleven Pro Bowl selections across his career. The AP Defensive Player of the Year Award in 1993. Interceptions in his first thirteen NFL seasons. A career that extended into Super Bowl victory with the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XXXV, where Woodson – by then converted to safety – set up the first score with an interception return that helped define how that game ended. ⭐

🏈 His 71 career interceptions placed him among the most prolific ball-hawking defensive backs in the history of the position. The numbers and the accolades accumulated across a career that ran from Pittsburgh to San Francisco to Baltimore to Oakland – seventeen NFL seasons, each one confirming what the 1989 Pro Set card shows in its early-career, foundational form: a player whose gifts were obvious from the beginning and whose career arc validated every expectation the Steelers had when they used a top-ten pick on a cornerback from Purdue. Rod Woodson entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009. 🏆

🏈 Rod Woodson. Cornerback / Safety. Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders. Fort Wayne, Indiana. Purdue University. 1987 NFL Draft 10th Overall Pick. 11x Pro Bowl. 1993 AP Defensive Player of the Year. 71 Career Interceptions. Super Bowl XXXV Champion. Pro Football Hall of Fame (2009). 1989 Pro Set #354 Rookie RC. PSA 10 Gem Mint. Collectible Trading Cards. Hall of Fame Sports. Condition: NOS.
