Description

This rare antique 1910s New England Vermont Maple Sap Syrup label is a gorgeous original from the New England Maple Syrup Co. of Boston, Massachusetts—exactly the kind of early advertising piece that usually ends up in museum files, not on the open market. 🍁

The design shows a New England farmhouse and sugarbush scene, with teams hauling sap down a snowy lane and decorative maple leaves in the corners. Across the front, the wording reads “New England Vermont Maple Sap Syrup – New England Maple Syrup Co., Boston, Mass.” It’s the classic maple image you see on countless reproductions today, but here you’re looking at the real thing.

📏 Large, scarce format
This label measures about 4" x 3", making it the larger size that would have been used on a quart‑size or larger container. Historic New England’s ephemera collection includes this same design in the smaller 3" x 2¼" size, cataloged as “Labels for New England Vermont Maple Sap Syrup, New England Maple Syrup Co., Boston, Mass.” Their entry notes four smaller labels; collectors can browse the image online, but not take it home.

The label offered here is the larger 4" x 3" NOS version, with richer color and cleaner paper than the institutional example. For serious collectors, that means you’re getting an original that actually presents better than what the museum has preserved.

✨ True NOS (New Old Stock)
This label was never applied to a can or bottle. It has been stored flat for decades, so the paper remains strong and the printing crisp. There’s no modern reprint here—just early‑20th‑century ink and paper, exactly as it left the printer over 100 years ago.

📚 New England Maple Syrup Co. & maple history
The New England Maple Syrup Co. appears in early 1900s Boston/Cambridge directories and in period court cases about maple syrup and blended maple products, reflecting the battles being fought over purity, labeling, and consumer protection. Labels like this were part of that story, promising Vermont maple sap syrup at a time when branding and regulation were both evolving.

Over the years, this artwork has been reused on modern postcards, posters, and novelty items, but those copies all trace back to original labels like this one. Owning an original NOS label connects you directly to that history in a way a reproduction simply can’t.

✨ Perfect for display & collecting

  • Ideal for framing in a kitchen, dining room, pantry, cafĂŠ, or maple sugarhouse

  • Wonderful anchor piece for a New England, Vermont, Boston, or food advertising collection

  • Strong crossover appeal for farmhouse decor, rustic cabin themes, and maple syrup enthusiasts

There is a finite number of these larger NOS labels left. Historic New England had to purchase their smaller example for the collection, and once the remaining originals are in private hands, there won’t be more to find. If you’ve been waiting for a standout piece of maple advertising with real provenance and museum‑level relevance, this label is one of those opportunities.

My pictures honestly don’t do it justice—the colors and detail in person have that warm, early‑20th‑century charm that only original printing can deliver. 🍁
