Each encapsulated word was individually removed from a fragment of a handwritten Jefferson document detailing a specific lot line in a boundary description of property in St. Anne’s parish. Jefferson was a trained land surveyor, and his Monticello estate was located in St. Anne’s Parish in Albemarle County, Virginia.
