🌸 A Little Pressed Garden Under Glass

I have a soft spot for these small ones. This is a miniature picture built from real pressed flowers, and this exact piece, pictured, is what ships. A single dark red bloom sits on its stem at the centre, a fern frond arches up the right, small yellow-tan dried blossoms and moss run along the bottom, sprigs with tiny star-shaped flowers climb the left, and a spiky pale bloom sits at the top. It is all laid on a warm cream, textured paper and sealed behind glass in a moulded gilt frame, with a little triangular hanger on the back, ready to go straight on a wall.

🇩🇪 What the Back Tells Me

Flip it over and the backing is printed "- Made in W.-Germany -" and "1972" handwritten. That "W. Germany" wording only shows up on goods from the Federal Republic, 1949 to 1990, before reunification, so that mark places it in that window, and the handwritten 1972 travels with it.

🌿 A Craft With Real History

Pressing flowers goes back to Victorian parlors, where people pressed blooms into books and framed them as keepsakes - part of the old "language of flowers," where a pressed arrangement could carry its own meaning. Small gilt-framed pieces like this one kept that tradition going as an affordable little souvenir craft well into the 1970s.
