Vintage 1972 La Nonne et les 7 Pécheresses Belgium Movie Poster, The Big Bust Out, Crucified Girls of San Ramon 🖼️

Size: 22 x 14 in ~ Unused archive stock, little to no wear. They vary a little one to the next. Everything here is stored in the dark, under 40% relative humidity, at a steady 72°F, climate controlled - whatever age a sheet shows, it had before it came to me.

🎬 A Prison Break, a Nun, and Worse Trouble Outside

This is the Belgian poster for La Nonne et les 7 Pécheresses — "The Nun and the 7 Sinners" — for the 1972 Italian-West German picture Io monaca... per tre carogne e sette peccatrici. Seven women break out of a prison in it, only to land in the hands of a white-slaver named Miller Drake — trading one kind of trouble for a worse one, which is about as on-brand as early-70s Eurocult gets. The director's credit reads REGIE RICHARD JACKSON - "Richard Jackson" was the international alias of the Austrian director Ernst R. von Theumer, printed on this sheet exactly the way it ran everywhere the film played. The billed cast — Tony Kendall, Monica Teuber, and William Berger — is right there under the title. The rest of the cast didn't make the poster, but I'll mention them anyway: Gordon Mitchell plays the slaver, and Vonetta McGee is one of the escapees. If Gordon Mitchell's name rings a bell, he's also on the Shanghai Joe sheet I've got listed, and the co-writer here, Sergio Garrone, directed the Tuez Django! poster in this same batch — this corner of Eurocult is a small world.

🎥 Roger Corman Trimmed It for the Drive-In Circuit

Here's the fact that gives this one extra weight for a Corman collector: the film's American rights went to Roger Corman's New World Pictures, which cut roughly twenty minutes out of it — call it 95 minutes down to 75 — and put it out stateside as The Big Bust Out. It also circulated under the alias The Crucified Girls of San Ramon. This Belgian sheet belongs to its European run, French and Flemish titles intact.

🇧🇪 Why a Belgian Poster Is Its Own Thing

I'll say this every time I list one of these, because it's true every time: Belgium is the only country in the world to use posters of this size, and they were very flamboyant compared to their counterparts across the globe. Due to their desirable size, graphics, and limited availability, these are a favorite among collectors. This one carries both of Belgium's languages at once — French up top in La Nonne et les 7 Pécheresses, Flemish along the bottom in De Non en de 7 Zondaressen.

📽️ Cosmopolis Films, Printed Right on the Sheet

Up in the corner it reads COSMOPOLIS FILMS presente, - Cosmopolis Films, a Brussels distributor based on rue des Palais right in the middle of the city's film-distribution district alongside houses like Belga Films and Columbia Films. They were in business there for the better part of forty years, December 1947 to October 1987, and their catalogue over that run went from postwar Italian dramas through peplum and sword-and-sandal pictures, spaghetti westerns, Eurospy thrillers, even Japanese kaiju and Hong Kong martial arts — a Euro-exploitation title like this one was squarely their kind of picture. Unused survivors like this one usually come straight from a distributor's own stock; a poster's whole job back then was to be used once, pasted up for a run, and thrown away, so the copies that actually went up in a cinema were the ones least likely to make it this far. This sheet comes from the archive of the now-defunct Cosmopolis Films, kept together as one collection since 2007. I haven't seen another copy of this Belgian printing offered anywhere, so it's a rare one - and once these are gone, they're gone.

🎨 What's Painted on It

The artwork earns its keep. On the left, a hooded nun in a black habit and white wimple raises a stone overhead with both hands. On the right, two women square off on a beach — one in a red wrap lunging with a knife, the other swinging a hammer — with a hard-lit coastal town on the horizon behind them. Bold red display lettering, high color, painted to stop somebody walking past a Belgian cinema. It's exactly the kind of drama a poster like this was built to sell.
