Throughout the Civil War, Van Camp's was a staple for troops and returning veterans alike.
Van Camp achieved success in 1861 with the first successful commercial cold storage warehouse and, by 1898, had production of six million cans.
By 1909, Indiana was the leading producer of canned beans, propelled by the Van Camp family.

Most of these artists were very good but desperate for work during that era and got paid very little and received no recognition for their work. Unfortunately, the majority of these artists will remain unknown but we can keep their art alive forever.
