Description

⚔️ Persian Highlands Mastery — Antique 1920s Kurdish Rug with Kazak Design from Persia

The Kurdish tribes of western Persia produced rugs that stand among the most bold, vigorously designed, and enduringly powerful in the entire canon of Oriental rug weaving. With deep roots in both Persian and Caucasian design traditions, Kurdish rugs incorporate the bold geometric Kazak vocabulary — strong medallions, angular field motifs, and saturated primary color palettes — executed in the warm, long-staple wool for which the Kurdish highlands are famous. This antique example, produced circa 1920, is a superb specimen of the tradition at its most expressive. 🌿

🧵 Hand-Knotted in Persia — Circa 1920s

Crafted by hand from natural wool on a wool foundation — the classic wool-on-wool construction of Kurdish weaving — this rug dates to the 1920s, when Kurdish tribal production was still untouched by commercial export adaptation. The wool is hand-spun, the dyes natural plant-based pigments. The construction features blue and red wool fringes original to the rug. ✨

🎨 Kazak Design in Deep Blue, Burgundy, and Cream

The design employs the bold Kazak medallion vocabulary — a design tradition the Kurdish weavers of Persia absorbed and transformed into something entirely their own. The palette of deep blue, rich burgundy, and cream is rendered with the confident, unfussy execution of tribal weaving at its strongest. The geometric field work is vibrant and sharp. 🔵

📐 Dimensions

Measuring 3 feet 6 inches by 6 feet 3 inches, this rug is ideally proportioned for an entryway, a hallway, a narrow sitting room, or as an accent piece in a larger antique rug collection. 🏡

🌍 Kurdish Tribal Weaving Heritage

Kurdish weavers in Persia — concentrated in the Bijar, Senneh, and western Zagros mountain regions — were among the most technically accomplished tribal weavers in the world. Kurdish rugs from the 1920s represent pre-commercial production made for use within the tribal community, carrying visual authenticity and material quality rarely seen in export-oriented production. A century-old example in good stable condition is a genuine find. 🌐

Condition

Good overall condition with minimal, old minor damage consistent with its century of age. Professionally washed and treated. Item ID: 1535.

🏡 Perfect For
