Who Made White Eagle Beverages in Fall River? 🦅 White Eagle Sparkling Beverages, White Eagle Bottling Works of Fall River, Mass.

Size: 4 1/8" x 4 1/4" ~ Unused.

This antique gold-embossed soda label is a knockout in person. A bold white eagle spreads its wings across a deep red ground, WHITE EAGLE runs through it in tall gold-and-black lettering, Sparkling is written underneath in gold script, and the whole square is framed in a shiny gold border with rounded corners. The gold really does pop far more than any photograph can show.

🥤 White Eagle Bottling Works

White Eagle was a hometown soda maker, established in 1916 according to its own label, and it kept bottling in Fall River for decades: its labels and bottles turn up from the early years right on into the painted-label quart bottles of later decades. The white eagle itself has been the national emblem of Poland for centuries, and Fall River had a Polish parish, St. Stanislaus, going back to 1898.

🧵 The Spindle City

Fall River was one of the great mill towns of the world. By 1876 it had one-sixth of all New England's cotton capacity and half of its print cloth, and the Spindle City, as it became known, was second in output only to Manchester, England. In just 1871 and 1872, 15 new corporations built 22 new mills and mill capacity doubled to more than a million spindles, with over 12,000 units of company housing built for the Irish and French Canadian families who came to work in them. Around 1910 the American Printing Company alone employed 6,000 people, but by the 1930s many of the mills were out of business and the city was bankrupt. And of course, Fall River is also the town known for the Lizzie Borden case.

It's a great piece for a soda fountain wall or anybody with Fall River roots, and that gold border really shines in a frame.
