Description

This vintage 1930s Velvet Rose Brand pumpkin can label is one of those pieces that instantly feels like home. 🎃🌹
Printed for Brighton Canning Company in Brighton, Iowa, it combines everything we love about old‑time grocery art: a glowing orange pumpkin, velvety red roses, flowing script, and deep blue banners that practically shout “PUMPKIN” from across the room.

✨ Original NOS (New Old Stock) label – unused cannery stock, never glued to a can
🎨 Early 20th‑century lithography with warm yellow ground, rich reds, blues, and greens

In the 1930s, a label had to tell a story in a single glance. Picture a small Iowa grocery: wooden floor, screen door, shelves lined with tins. Busy parents scan the aisle and their eye stops on the Velvet Rose label—the promise of a smooth pumpkin pie filling, the romance of roses twined around the brand name, the feeling that this can would make the holidays just a little bit nicer.

As the decades rolled on, brands were redesigned, local canneries were absorbed into larger companies, and most of the old label stock was used up or tossed. A few bundles survived in warehouses and desk drawers, and that’s where NOS labels like this come from. They’re quiet survivors of farm harvests, kitchen routines, and autumn traditions.

🏡 Why this label works so well as decor
🎃 Perfect centerpiece for Halloween and fall displays—pair with pumpkins, leaves, and vintage tins
🏠 Lovely framed in a farmhouse kitchen, pantry, dining room, or home bar
📚 Great conversation starter about food history, small‑town Iowa, and the art of old can labels

Museums and design schools often show labels like this in galleries because the lithography, color, and lettering are so good, even though they were “just” packaging. Hang one in your home and you get that same mix of art and story: a glimpse of how families once stocked their pantries and celebrated the harvest.

They’re not printing Velvet Rose labels anymore. Once the remaining NOS stock is tucked away in collections and on walls, finding another in this condition won’t be easy. If you love pumpkins, farmhouse kitchens, or the feel of a 1930s grocery store, this label is a beautiful way to bring that world into your space. My pictures truly don’t do it justice. 🍂🎃
