🎖 This vintage 1950 Hopalong Cassidy pinback comes from Quality Dairy Co. in St. Louis, Missouri, and it’s a wonderfully crisp new old stock (NOS) survivor from the golden age of cowboy‑and‑ice‑cream promotions. At about 1 1/2" across, the round tin‑litho badge features Hopalong Cassidy in his trademark hat with “QUALITY DAIRY” across the top, “My Favorite ICE CREAM” below, and “Quality Dairy Co., St. Louis, Missouri” arcing around the bottom.

🍨 Pieces like this were handed out to visitors, school groups, or special‑event guests at the dairy—pinned on coats so everyone in the plant knew they were part of the tour. You can almost picture a line of kids in their Sunday best, each proudly wearing a bright yellow Hoppy badge as they watched bottles rattle down the conveyor and giant tanks of ice cream churn away behind glass.

🏙️ St. Louis has a deep dairy and food‑processing history, and mid‑century creameries like Quality Dairy helped keep the region supplied with milk, butter, and ice cream. For local kids, a factory visit was a big deal: hair nets, the smell of cold sweet cream, the echo of machinery, and, if they were lucky, a small souvenir like this pin to take home at the end of the day.

📚 The cowboy on the badge, Hopalong Cassidy, started life in 1904 as a Western hero created by author Clarence E. Mulford, originally written as a tougher, rough‑edged gunslinger. Actor William Boyd softened and refined Hoppy for the screen, playing him in films starting in the 1930s and eventually buying the rights to the character and the movies—reportedly mortgaging much of what he owned to do it. That gamble paid off when he brought the films to television and launched a new Hopalong Cassidy TV series that premiered June 24, 1949, widely recognized as one of the first network Westerns.

🤠 Once Hoppy hit TV, he became a full‑blown phenomenon. Kids begged for Hopalong lunchboxes, cap guns, and costumes, and companies like Quality Dairy realized that putting his face on milk and ice cream instantly made their products more exciting. A simple round pin suddenly became a badge of membership: if you wore it, you weren’t just visiting a dairy—you were visiting Hopalong Cassidy’s favorite dairy.

🖼️ Today this pin works beautifully as wearable nostalgia or as part of a display. The yellow and black design pops on a denim jacket, Western shirt, hat, backpack, or apron, and it looks fantastic in a shadowbox surrounded by old photos, milk caps, and other dairy or Hopalong Cassidy memorabilia. Because this example is NOS, the litho colors are strong and the metal pinback is clean and ready to use.

You will receive one original vintage 1950 Hopalong Cassidy Quality Dairy Co. St. Louis ice cream pinback button, approx. 1 1/2", in clean, bright NOS, unused condition—original mid‑century dairy and Western advertising.
