Step into the past with this extraordinary antique Vintage 1950s Blue Hound Crate Label, a captivating relic from Reedley, CA, and a thrilling nod to the exhilarating world of Greyhound Dog Racing! This vintage treasure is not just a piece of paper; it's a portal to a bygone era of excitement and nostalgia!

Measuring an impressive 13" x 4", this crate label is a true collector's gem. The sheet reads GROWN AND PACKED BY T. APKARIAN & SONS, REEDLEY, CALIFORNIA — they grew and packed the fruit — and the label itself was printed by STECHER TRAUNG S. F., CALIF., whose imprint is set in dark red microtype at the bottom right, below the packer block.

While my pictures offer a glimpse, they truly don't do justice to the vibrant colors and intricate details of this 1950s Blue Hound masterpiece. The rich hues and dynamic design leap off the surface, transporting you to the golden age of fruit crate art and Americana.

Crate Labels like this Vintage 1950s Blue Hound are not merely pieces of art; they're tangible reminders of a fascinating chapter in American history. The lithography process used in their creation is a testament to the craftsmanship of the era, producing results that remain unparalleled even in today's digital age. It's no wonder that prestigious museums and art institutes have dedicated entire galleries to these miniature marvels of advertising art.

As more collectors recognize the historical significance and artistic value of these labels, the demand for authentic pieces like this 1950s Blue Hound Crate Label continues to soar. Once the limited supply of these vintage treasures is acquired and displayed in private collections or esteemed galleries, they will become increasingly rare and difficult to obtain. Don't miss this opportunity to own a piece of history!

Imagine this fantastic vintage advertising piece as the centerpiece of your home décor! Whether displayed in your living room, kitchen, or office, this Vintage 1950s Blue Hound Crate Label will spark conversations and transport viewers to an era of excitement and nostalgia. Why let it languish in a museum when it could be the crown jewel of your personal collection?

🏷️ What Is Printed on This Label

Read off the sheet itself, verbatim — this is the label's own printed text, not a description of it:

  • PRODUCE OF U.S.A.
  • BLUE HOUND
  • GROWN AND PACKED BY
  • T. APKARIAN & SONS
  • REEDLEY, CALIFORNIA
  • STECHER TRAUNG S. F., CALIF.

The printer is on the object — STECHER TRAUNG S. F., CALIF., in dark red microtype on the red ground at the bottom right, below the packer block. No form or plate number follows it.

What is actually drawn. A blue-grey hound at full stretch, jaws open, chasing a brown jackrabbit that is bounding out of the left edge; between them a circular vignette of a California ranch — hillside vineyard rows in leaf, a wheat-coloured field, red-roofed farm buildings, distant hills and cumulus. The rabbit is half the composition and the whole point of the chase, and it appeared in no body. That vineyard vignette is also the only clue on the sheet to what was in the box: no fruit or commodity word is printed anywhere.

The blank yellow panel at lower centre is unprinted — a field left for the packer's grade or variety stamp, never filled on this example. That is what tells a collector this sheet was never used.
