Description

Autographed/Signed Denny McLain Detroit White Baseball Jersey JSA COA – The Authenticated In-Person Signature of Denny McLain, Detroit Tigers Pitcher, 1968 American League Most Valuable Player, 1968 and 1969 American League Cy Young Award Winner, and the Last Pitcher in Major League Baseball to Win 30 Games in a Single Season

⚾ Denny McLain grew up in Markham, Illinois, and came to the Detroit Tigers as a pitcher whose fastball and competitive presence on the mound were apparent to anyone who tracked what the American League's most capable starters were doing in the late 1960s. The 1968 season removed any remaining question. McLain went 31–6 with a 1.96 ERA, struck out 280 batters, and completed 28 of his 41 starts. The American League gave him both the Most Valuable Player Award and the Cy Young Award in the same year – the combination that recognizes a pitcher who has separated himself from the pitching conversation entirely and entered the broader conversation about the best players in baseball. The Detroit Tigers won the World Series that October, and the 1968 season in the American League became the season history remembers as belonging to Denny McLain.

⚾ The 1969 season produced a second Cy Young Award, confirming that 1968 was not an isolated peak but the product of a pitcher operating at the highest level of the craft. No pitcher in professional baseball has won 30 games in a single season since McLain did it in 1968, and the record now carries the weight of more than five decades of pitchers who approached the number and fell short. The 30-win season has become one of the benchmarks in the modern era of the game – the line that most statistical analysts believe will never be crossed again in the current conditions of Major League Baseball. This jersey carries that history in ink. Authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA) with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). Condition: NOS.
