Autographed/Signed Dwight “Doc” Gooden New York Pinstripe Baseball Jersey PSA/DNA COA – Hand-Signed by the Pitcher Whose 1985 Season Stands as One of the Most Dominant Individual Performances in the History of the Modern Pitching Era – 1984 National League Rookie of the Year, 1985 National League Cy Young Award Winner, 1986 New York World Series Champion – Authenticated by PSA/DNA

⚾ There are pitching seasons in Major League Baseball history that exist outside the normal parameters of what the sport expects from even its most talented arms – years so complete in their statistical dominance that the comparisons they invite reach back to eras defined by different rules, different competitive standards, and different understandings of what excellence in pitching could look like. Dwight Eugene “Doc” Gooden's 1985 season with the New York Mets is one of those years. He was twenty years old. He went 24-4. His earned run average was 1.53. He struck out 268 batters in 276.2 innings. The National League Cy Young Award was unanimous. The Most Valuable Player voting placed him second to the Cardinals' Willie McGee, a result that reflected the convention of giving MVP awards to position players rather than any doubt about the season's individual quality. The year before, at nineteen, he had won the National League Rookie of the Year Award with a performance that had already suggested the 1985 season might be possible but had not quite prepared the baseball world for how completely it would be executed. The year after, in 1986, he pitched for a New York Mets team that won the World Series. Three consecutive seasons that defined a New York City career before Gooden had turned twenty-two. This signed New York pinstripe baseball jersey, authenticated by PSA/DNA, carries his signature on the uniform that represents the franchise or franchises whose colors he wore across his most celebrated seasons. Condition: NOS.

⚾ Gooden later pitched for the New York Yankees, and on May 14, 1996, in the Bronx, in a comeback season that had given the city an opportunity to see what remained of the arm that had dominated hitters a decade earlier, he threw a no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners at Yankee Stadium – one of the most emotionally significant no-hitters in the team's history, a moment that connected his two New York careers across the space of twelve years. PSA/DNA confirmed the Dwight Gooden signature on this New York pinstripe baseball jersey. Condition: NOS.
