What happened next produced the most important hit in Seattle Mariners history and one of the most replayed moments in postseason baseball: a line drive into left-center field that sent Cora home easily and Griffey around second, third, and home on one of the most joyful baserunning moments ever televised, the Ken Griffey Jr. run captured by cameras that stayed with him from the moment he turned at second base until he slid home. The Mariners won the series. They stayed in Seattle. A city that had been told it might lose its baseball team celebrated with the kind of release that comes when something that seemed inevitable is suddenly, improbably reversed. 🔢
