Vintage Autographed/Signed Jim Leyland Detroit Grey Baseball Jersey JSA COA – Hand-Signed by the Baseball Manager Who Won the 1997 World Series Championship and Who Built Some of the Most Competitive Rosters in the National League During the Pittsburgh Pirates Dynasty of the Early 1990s Before Taking His Championship Expertise to Detroit and Leading the Tigers to Two American League Pennants, Confirmed Authentic by James Spence Authentication

⚾ The Detroit Tigers grey jersey is the road identity of one of the most storied franchises in American League history – the grey that Tigers teams have worn into enemy ballparks through more than a century of baseball, carrying the tradition of a franchise that produced Ty Cobb, Hank Greenberg, Al Kaline, and the 1984 championship team that started the season 35-5 and never looked back. Jim Leyland wore the grey Detroit jersey while managing the Tigers to two American League pennants and while building the teams that made the Tigers relevant again in the American League East in the late 2000s and early 2010s. His signature on this grey jersey is the mark of a manager whose career built one of the most complete managing resumes of his era across four organizations and three different decades.

⚾ Jim Leyland was born December 15, 1944, in Perrysburg, Ohio, and spent many years in the minor leagues as a player and catching instructor before beginning his major league managing career with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1986. What he built in Pittsburgh over the next eleven seasons transformed a franchise that had been struggling into one of the most consistent winning organizations in the National League – three consecutive NL East division titles from 1990 through 1992, featuring rosters that included Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonilla, Doug Drabek, and the pitching and offensive depth that made the Pirates one of the most formidable teams in the senior circuit for three consecutive years. The NLCS appearances those three seasons produced established Leyland as one of the most respected managers in the game, and when the opportunity arose to manage a new franchise, he proved he could win with a team that had no tradition of winning at all.

⚾ In 1997, Jim Leyland managed the Florida Marlins – a five-year-old expansion franchise that owner Wayne Huizenga had assembled through free agency into a championship contender – to the World Series championship over the Cleveland Indians in a Game 7 that went to extra innings, giving Leyland his first and the Marlins' first World Series title in the franchise's brief history. That championship proved that Leyland could build and lead a roster from scratch into the final round of the postseason, and the reputation it produced followed him when he arrived in Detroit in 2006. The Tigers made it to the World Series in his first year managing the franchise, and again in 2012, and the Grey Road jersey from those Detroit years represents one of the most productive managing chapters in the American League in the modern era. Condition: NOS.
