In Game 4, the decisive final game, he came back and went 8.2 innings, allowing two runs, striking out nine again. In 15.1 innings across two starts, he gave up just four runs and 11 hits while striking out 18. The Most Valuable Player Award was not a close decision. Rijo was the best pitcher in that World Series and possibly the single most decisive factor in the outcome of what is remembered as one of the most surprising World Series results of the modern era.
