Juan Marichal — The Dominican Dandy — arrived with the San Francisco Giants in 1960 and spent twelve years painting the corners, working hitters from every angle, with a high-kicking delivery that was as much ballet as it was baseball. He was a six-time All-Star (1962 through 1968, minus 1967), a 243-game winner, a pitcher who posted a career ERA of 2.89 over sixteen big league seasons. He belongs in the same sentence as the greatest pitchers of his generation — and for a long stretch of the 1960s, he was the best pitcher in the National League.
