Description

🏈 Autographed Richard Todd New York Jets Green Football Jersey JSA COA — Born Birmingham Alabama, University of Alabama Under Bear Bryant, New York Jets Quarterback and Successor to Joe Namath (1976-1983), 1982 AFC Championship Finalist, A Chapter in the Long History of Jets Football — Signed Green Jersey, JSA Authenticated

The New York Jets green. The color that carries decades of Jets history — from the Super Bowl III championship year of Joe Namath, through the hard-fought 1970s and 1980s teams that chased the next championship without quite reaching it, to the current era of loyalty that Jets fans maintain through everything the franchise has offered. Signed by Richard Todd — the quarterback from Birmingham, Alabama, who came out of Bear Bryant's program at the University of Alabama and was selected 6th overall in the 1976 NFL Draft to be the future of the Jets franchise after Broadway Joe. His green jersey, signed and authenticated by JSA, connects directly to an era of Jets football that the organization's longtime fans remember with the complexity of teams that came close but did not complete the journey. Todd was the quarterback of the 1982 AFC Championship Jets. He was the man who stood in the pocket after Namath and tried to give New York another title shot. This is his signature on the green.

🌟 Birmingham, Alabama — University of Alabama — Bear Bryant's Program

Richard Todd was born November 19, 1953, in Birmingham, Alabama — the industrial city of the American Deep South that has produced athletes of consequence across every major sport in American professional history. He played his college football at the University of Alabama under Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant — one of the most demanding and successful football coaches in the history of the college game, a man whose coaching tree and philosophical approach to the sport influenced generations of players and coaches. Todd was part of the Bryant era — the period of Alabama dominance in the SEC and in college football nationally — and carried that competitive background into the 1976 NFL Draft where the Jets made him the 6th overall pick.

🏆 New York Jets — Namath's Successor — The 1982 AFC Championship Run

Following Joe Namath as the quarterback of the New York Jets was a task that carried the full weight of the most famous single-game guarantee in professional football history. Broadway Joe's Super Bowl III guarantee and victory over the Baltimore Colts in January 1969 had made the Jets something more than a football team — it had made them a New York legend. Richard Todd arrived in 1976 and spent eight seasons trying to build on that legacy. His finest moment came in the 1982 season — a strike-shortened year in which the Jets finished 6-3 and advanced through the AFC playoffs, defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 44-17 in the second round, before reaching the AFC Championship Game against the Miami Dolphins. The Jets lost 14-0 in the famous Mud Bowl — a game played in terrible conditions at the Orange Bowl in Miami that ended the closest Todd would come to a Super Bowl. He remained the Jets' quarterback through 1983 and finished his career with the New Orleans Saints. This signed green jersey is the artifact of a career spent in one of the most storied and demanding quarterback positions in professional football — the successor to Namath, the leader of the 1982 Jets.

The Green Jersey — The Jets Identity — JSA Authenticated

The green is the Jets. It has been since the early AFL years, since the days when the American Football League was making its case against the NFL and the Jets were the league's New York franchise. Richard Todd wore this green through eight seasons of Jets football, through playoff runs and rebuilding years and the enormous cultural weight of being the quarterback in a New York market that compared everything to the Namath era. This signed green jersey, authenticated by JSA, is for the Jets collector who appreciates the full history of the franchise — not just the Super Bowl III triumph, but the quarterbacks who came next and carried the jersey with pride.
