Description

⚾ Rick Monday Signed Los Angeles Dodgers White Baseball Jersey — Beckett BAS COA — Rescuer of the American Flag (April 25, 1976), 1981 NLCS Walk-Off Home Run, First-Ever MLB Draft Pick 1965, Batavia Illinois, Arizona State, Display Your Way

On April 25, 1976, during a game at Dodger Stadium between the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers, two protesters ran onto the field carrying an American flag and a can of lighter fluid. Before they could set the flag on fire, Cubs outfielder Rick Monday sprinted across the outfield, scooped the flag from their hands, and carried it to safety. The crowd gave him a standing ovation. Both teams stood in the dugout. The Dodgers' public address system played "God Bless America." It was one of the most spontaneous, human moments in the history of professional baseball, and it happened because Rick Monday — born in Batavia, Illinois, raised in California, first overall pick in the first-ever MLB Draft in 1965 out of Arizona State — saw what was happening and acted.

⚾ Five years later, on October 19, 1981, with the Dodgers trailing the Montreal Expos 1-0 in the 9th inning of Game 5 of the NLCS, Rick Monday stepped to the plate and hit a walk-off two-run home run that sent Los Angeles to the World Series. The Dodgers went on to beat the New York Yankees in six games. Monday became a Dodger broadcaster in 1993 and has called games for the franchise for more than 30 years since. This signed Dodgers white baseball jersey comes Beckett BAS COA authenticated and unframed — display your way: shadowbox it, custom frame it, present it in your Dodgers collection. The flag rescue. The NLCS walk-off. Rick Monday.
