Vintage Autographed/Signed Steve Carlton Philadelphia Phillies Grey Baseball Jersey JSA COA – Hand-Signed by the Philadelphia Phillies Left-Handed Starting Pitcher Who Won Four Cy Young Awards, Recorded 329 Career Wins, Won the 1972 National League Cy Young by Such a Dominant Margin That He Finished with More Wins Than His Entire Team Combined, and Was Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994 as One of the Greatest Pitchers the Game Had Ever Produced, Confirmed Authentic by James Spence Authentication

⚾ The Philadelphia Phillies grey road jersey is the traveling identity of a franchise whose connection to the city it represents runs through more than a century of National League competition – the road grey that Phillies teams have carried to stadiums across the country, the jersey worn when the team plays away from Citizens Bank Park and its predecessors, the fabric that bears the city name when the franchise competes in other markets. When Steve Carlton signed this grey Phillies jersey and James Spence Authentication confirmed the signature as genuine, the result was a signed piece from the pitcher who defined the franchise's identity in the way that perhaps no other player since has: a lefthander whose combination of stuff, competitive ferocity, and physical conditioning gave him a career that produced four Cy Young Awards and placed him in the very small category of pitchers whose individual excellence sustained itself across two full decades of major league competition.

⚾ Steven Norman Carlton was born December 22, 1944, in Miami, Florida, and developed as a left-handed pitcher through the St. Louis Cardinals organization before being traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in 1972 in one of the most significant pitching transactions in National League history. The Cardinals sent Carlton to Philadelphia in exchange for Rick Wise – a right-handed pitcher who was himself a capable major league starter – and what the Phillies received in return was one of the most dominant pitching seasons in the history of the game delivered in the very first year of Carlton's time in Philadelphia. His 1972 National League Cy Young Award was won on the strength of a season in which he finished with twenty-seven wins on a Phillies team that won only fifty-nine games total – meaning that Carlton accounted for approximately forty-six percent of his team's victories in a season when everything that could go wrong for a baseball organization largely did.

⚾ Carlton's career with the Phillies across fifteen seasons produced the additional Cy Young Awards in 1977, 1980, and 1982 that placed him with four total, tying him at the time with only Sandy Koufax as the pitcher with the most career Cy Young recognitions. The 1980 World Series championship that the Phillies won over the Kansas City Royals gave Carlton the championship ring that his individual statistical production had long deserved, and his partnership with catcher Bob Boone and the Phillies defensive core of that era produced the kind of complete pitching foundation that the 1980 championship was built upon. His devastating slider – which Carlton developed into one of the most unhittable individual pitches in the game during his peak years – was the primary weapon of a pitcher who is remembered by the hitters who faced him as the most difficult individual at-bat that professional baseball produced in the 1970s and 1980s. The grey Phillies jersey with his autograph is the road uniform from that legacy. Condition: NOS.
