Description

🏒 Autographed/Signed Ted Lindsay Chicago Blackhawks 8x10 Hockey Photo — JSA COA — A Signed Photograph Authenticated by James Spence Authentication Bearing the Signature of One of the Most Ferocious Competitors in the History of the NHL, the Renfrew Ontario Native Known as "Terrible Ted" Whose Left Wing Play for the Detroit Red Wings' Production Line Alongside Gordie Howe and Sid Abel Made Him One of the Most Feared Players of His Era and Whose Later Advocacy for Players' Rights Made Him One of the Most Important Figures in the History of the Sport Off the Ice as Well

🏒 The nickname "Terrible Ted" was not given as an insult. In the NHL of the late 1940s and 1950s — a physical, combative league where players protected themselves and their teammates without the intervention of modern officiating standards — "terrible" was recognition. It meant that opposing players had to think about where Ted Lindsay was before they made any move that involved going near his teammates, because Lindsay's response to any perceived transgression would be immediate, physical, and disproportionate in a way that made future transgressions less likely. He was 5 feet 8 inches and 163 pounds, and he played as though his physical dimensions were considerably larger than that.

🏒 Lindsay was born on July 29, 1925, in Renfrew, Ontario — a small Ottawa Valley community — and arrived in Detroit in 1944 to begin a career with the Red Wings that would produce four Stanley Cup championships, nine All-Star selections, and the 1949-50 NHL scoring title. His partnership with center Sid Abel and right wing Gordie Howe — the Production Line — was the most dominant forward combination in the NHL during the late 1940s and early 1950s, producing offensive numbers that gave the Red Wings a structural advantage over opponents who could not match what the three of them created together. Lindsay and Howe played left and right wing off the same center for years, and their partnership produced one of the great individual friendships in NHL history alongside one of the great competitive partnerships.

🏒 His time with the Chicago Blackhawks (1957-1960) — a trade that Detroit management made in response to Lindsay's labor organizing efforts on behalf of the fledgling NHL Players Association — added a chapter to his biography that reflects both the personal cost of standing up for players' rights in an era when management held all leverage, and Lindsay's willingness to accept that cost. This 8x10 photograph from his Blackhawks years is authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA) with a Certificate of Authenticity. Lindsay passed away on March 4, 2019, at the age of 93, making his signed pieces lasting artifacts of one of hockey's most significant figures. Condition: NOS.
