His partnership with center Sid Abel and right wing Gordie Howe — the Production Line — was the most dominant forward combination in the NHL during the late 1940s and early 1950s, producing offensive numbers that gave the Red Wings a structural advantage over opponents who could not match what the three of them created together. Lindsay and Howe played left and right wing off the same center for years, and their partnership produced one of the great individual friendships in NHL history alongside one of the great competitive partnerships.
