Signed by Al Oliver — Scoop — the outfielder and first baseman who was a cornerstone of the Pittsburgh Pirates teams that dominated the National League East in the early 1970s and who accumulated 2,743 career hits across a remarkable career. 🌟 Al Oliver — Portsmouth, Ohio; The Ohio River; The Professional Hitter

Al Oliver was born October 14, 1946, in Portsmouth, Ohio — Scioto County, southern Ohio, the Ohio River country where the state meets Kentucky at the river's edge, a region of hills and hollows and old industrial tradition where the rivers defined travel and commerce for generations. Portsmouth is the kind of city that produces athletes who are honest about their work ethic because the work ethic is built into the culture. Oliver came up through the Pirates system and made his major league debut in 1968, becoming part of one of the most talented Pittsburgh teams in the franchise's history — the team built around Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell and a rotation of pitchers that made Forbes Field one of the most difficult parks in the National League to produce runs in.

🏆 1971 World Series Champion — Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates won the 1971 World Series over the Baltimore Orioles — four games to three, a remarkable comeback from 2 games to none down. Roberto Clemente was the World Series MVP. Al Oliver was part of that champion team, part of the Pirates lineup that gave Clemente the run support he needed and that contributed to one of the finest World Series performances in baseball history. The yellow Pirates jersey — the Pittsburgh gold — is the jersey of that championship era and all those seasons of National League East dominance.

Seven All-Star Selections — 2,743 Career Hits

Al Oliver was a seven-time All-Star across his career with the Pirates, Texas Rangers, Montreal Expos, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Toronto Blue Jays. He finished with 2,743 career hits and a .303 career batting average — the numbers of a professional hitter, a man who made contact consistently and who produced across different parks, different teams, and different eras of the game. The Pittsburgh yellow jersey — the most distinctive uniform of his primary team — framed at 35x39. Signed. Authenticated by JSA. Wall-ready to hang today.
