Washington, D.C. Dave Bing grew up in the nation's capital and starred at Spingarn High School, a program that produced an extraordinary run of basketball talent in the 1950s and 1960s. From there he headed to Syracuse University, playing for the Orangemen and developing into one of the most complete guards in college basketball before the 1966 NBA Draft. 🏀

Detroit, Michigan. The Pistons. Dave Bing was selected second overall in the 1966 NBA Draft and immediately became the face of the Detroit franchise, winning NBA Rookie of the Year in 1967 and leading the league in scoring in 1968. Seven-time NBA All-Star. A career that spanned the Cobo Arena era of Pistons basketball, playing alongside and against the giants of the league's golden age, before finishing his career with stops in Washington and Boston. In 1990, Dave Bing was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. ⭐

Beyond the court, Dave Bing built a successful steel business in Detroit and, in 2009, was elected Mayor of Detroit, serving the city he'd played for decades earlier during one of the most challenging periods in its history.
