🏀 Autographed David Thompson HOF 96 Denver Nuggets Blue Retro Rainbow Basketball Jersey Beckett BAS COA — The Authenticated Framed Signed Denver Nuggets Iconic Blue Retro Rainbow Jersey of "Skywalker," the Hall of Fame Forward Whose Vertical Leap Defied Physics, Whose 73-Point Single-Game Performance Remains One of the Most Electrifying Individual Performances in NBA History, and Whose Career at NC State and in Denver Produced Moments That the Sport Has Never Fully Stopped Talking About

🏀 There is no uniform in basketball history quite like the Denver Nuggets rainbow jersey of the 1970s — a design so audacious, so unapologetically colorful, so entirely of its era that it has been repeatedly revived and celebrated by the franchise and the wider basketball culture as one of the sport's iconic visual artifacts. The horizontal rainbow stripe across the chest of the blue base jersey is the Nuggets' most distinctive identity element, and when David Thompson wore it, he was matching a uniform with an extraordinary equal in terms of visual impact: a player whose nickname was "Skywalker" because his vertical leap was not just impressive but genuinely mythological by the standards of professional basketball, a player who could seemingly hang in the air longer than the physics of the sport suggested was possible.

🏀 Thompson was born on July 13, 1954, in Shelby, North Carolina, the youngest of 11 children in a family whose circumstances required him to find his own pathway forward through the talent that basketball discovered in him early and refined steadily. He went to NC State — not the most prominent basketball program, but the one that gave him the opportunity to build toward what he became — and in 1974, he led the Wolfpack to the NCAA National Championship, defeating UCLA's dynasty that had won seven consecutive national titles. It was one of the most significant upsets in college basketball history, and Thompson's performance in that tournament confirmed that his talent was not a projection but a fully realized reality.

🏀 The Denver Nuggets of the ABA claimed him with the first overall pick in 1975, and when the ABA merged with the NBA in 1976, Thompson arrived in the established league without a transition period — playing at the same level that had made him the most electrifying prospect in either league. The 1977-78 season produced the performance that Thompson's career is most remembered for: on the final day of the regular season, racing against George Gervin of the San Antonio Spurs for the NBA scoring title, Thompson scored 73 points in a single game — a total that stood for decades as one of the highest single-game performances in league history. Gervin responded in his own game with 63 second-half points and won the title, but the Thompson performance entered the sport's permanent historical record as something extraordinary.

🏀 The Basketball Hall of Fame inducted him in 1996. The rainbow jersey he wears in this framed signed piece is among the most beloved designs in American professional sports — a piece of basketball history that connects to an era when the sport was reinventing itself, when its personalities were larger than life, and when a player called Skywalker could make the game feel genuinely magical.
