He went to the University of Illinois, became a consensus All-American, and was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the first round of the 1965 NFL Draft. He never played for any other team. Nine seasons, all in Chicago. He retired in 1973 due to a knee injury. And in those nine seasons, he built a reputation as the most physically intimidating defensive player in the history of professional football.
