Framed Autographed/Signed Kerry Wood 98 ROY 35x39 Chicago Blue Baseball Jersey Beckett BAS COA – A Beckett Authentication Services Authenticated Autographed Chicago Cubs Road Blue Baseball Jersey of the 1998 National League Rookie of the Year Who Struck Out 20 Batters in a Single Game on May 6, 1998 – One of the Greatest Individual Pitching Performances in Baseball History – Inscribed 98 ROY

⚾ On May 6, 1998, Kerry Wood was 20 years old and in his fifth major league start. He faced the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field. What followed, over nine innings, was a complete game one-hitter in which he struck out 20 batters, walked zero, and matched the single-game strikeout record that Roger Clemens had set in 1986 and equaled in 1996 – 20 strikeouts being the most any pitcher had achieved in nine innings in the history of the major leagues at that point. The crowd at Wrigley understood what they were watching as it unfolded. The Cubs went on to win 2-0. The radar gun readings were in the upper 90s. Wood was overpowering on that particular Tuesday afternoon with a combination of fastball velocity and a hard slider that experienced professional hitters simply could not put into play. The performance is catalogued in baseball history as one of the greatest single-game pitching efforts ever recorded, and it arrived in the first half of the season in which Wood won the National League Rookie of the Year award – an award the jersey he signed commemorates with the “98 ROY” inscription. This 35x39 framed Chicago Cubs road blue jersey carries his full authenticated signature with Beckett BAS COA and the inscription, making it a primary artifact of one of the most celebrated pitching debuts in baseball's modern era. Condition: NOS.

⚾ Kerry Wood was born on June 16, 1977, in Irving, Texas, and was the Cubs' first-round pick in the 1995 draft. After the historic 1998 season, his career was interrupted repeatedly by injury – Tommy John surgery in 1999 took the entire following season – and the story of Kerry Wood became, in part, a story about what might have been alongside what actually was. In 2003, he and Mark Prior led the Cubs deeper into October than the franchise had been in decades, reaching the NLCS and the game seven heartbreak that Cubs fans of that era still reference. He retired in 2012 as a beloved figure in Chicago baseball culture, and the road blue jersey – the “Cubs” lettering across the chest in white on the Cubby blue road uniform he wore through all those seasons – is the artifact most associated with the career. Signed in full with Beckett BAS authentication, framed at 35x39, inscribed 98 ROY, it is a piece that connects directly to the moment the game first stopped to notice him. Condition: NOS.
