Framed Autographed/Signed Rick Sutcliffe 35x39 Chicago Cubs Blue Baseball Jersey with Beckett BAS COA – The Framed Hand-Signed Chicago Cubs Blue Baseball Jersey of Rick “The Red Baron” Sutcliffe, 1984 National League Cy Young Award Winner, the Pitcher Who Arrived in Chicago at the Trade Deadline and Went 16-1 in a Half-Season That Transformed the Cubs into the Best Team in the National League, the Beloved Figure Whose Red Hair and Red Beard Made Him One of the Most Recognizable Players to Ever Take the Mound at Wrigley Field, Certified Authentic by Beckett Authentication Services (BAS), From the Hall of Fame Sports Collection

⚾ Professional baseball folklore is built on players who changed franchises and changed outcomes, and the mid-1984 trade that sent Rick Sutcliffe from the Cleveland Indians to the Chicago Cubs in June of that year belongs at the top of the list. The Cubs gave up Joe Carter, Mel Hall, Don Schulze, and Darryl Banks to get Sutcliffe, and what they received in return was a pitcher who went 16-1 after the trade while the Cubs, behind Ryne Sandberg's MVP season and a revitalized North Side fanbase, won the NL East division for the first time in decades. Sutcliffe went 20-6 overall that year combined across both clubs. The NL Cy Young Award was unanimous. 🌟

⚾ The Red Baron. The nickname attached itself to Sutcliffe so naturally that it was difficult to think of him without it. The red hair and red beard were part of the Wrigley Field visual identity of that era – the big right-hander walking out from the brick dugout, taking the mound against the ivy-covered outfield wall that has been the backdrop of baseball in Chicago since 1937. Sutcliffe pitched with personality and with competitive fire, and the Cubs fans on the North Side who filled the bleachers and the grandstand responded to both. He gave them reasons to believe in Octobers that had been out of reach for a generation. ⭐

⚾ The 1984 NLCS against the San Diego Padres ended the way it ended – a series the Cubs led two games to none before losing three straight, with Leon Durham's error in Game 5 becoming one of the enduring images of the franchise's long wait for the World Series – and Sutcliffe pitched Game 1 of that series, gutting through an imperfect outing in one of the most anticipated Cubs playoff games in decades. The heartbreak of 1984 did not diminish what he had done to bring the franchise to that moment. He stayed in Chicago through 1991, long enough to become a fixture at Wrigley, a face of the team, a player whose story was inseparable from a stretch of Cubs baseball that the North Side remembers with both warmth and the particular ache that Chicago baseball has always carried. 🏆

⚾ This Beckett BAS-authenticated framed 35x39 signed blue jersey is the permanent display form of a career that was defined by one extraordinary half-season and then sustained across seven more years in Chicago. The Cubs blue jersey is the color of the North Side, of Wrigley Field, of the tradition that predates everyone currently playing the game. Rick Sutcliffe earned the right to wear it. 🎯
