The crowd at the Vet erupted, the tone was set, and the Eagles were on their way to Super Bowl XV – the first in franchise history. Montgomery was the engine behind that team's offensive identity: a compact, powerful, and elusive runner who had spent four seasons establishing himself as the Eagles' most important offensive weapon. He finished his Eagles career as the franchise's all-time leading rusher, a mark that stood for decades. He made the Pro Bowl twice and was selected to the 1980 All-Pro team in the best season of his career – the season that ended with that run.
