Graded 1969 Topps Jim Hunter #235 Rookie RC Baseball Card PSA 6 Excellent — The Professional Sports Authenticator PSA 6 Excellent Certified 1969 Topps Baseball Card of Jim Hunter, Card Number 235, From the Hall of Fame Pitcher Who Won Three Consecutive World Series Championships With the Oakland Athletics and Who Carried One of the Most Storied Nicknames in the History of the Game

⚾ The Graded 1969 Topps Jim Hunter #235 Rookie RC Baseball Card PSA 6 Excellent is the Professional Sports Authenticator-graded example of Jim Hunter's 1969 Topps card — graded PSA 6 Excellent, a mid-to-high tier condition grade that reflects the card's survival through more than five decades in remarkable shape. The 1969 Topps baseball card set is one of the most collected vintage baseball card series in the history of the hobby, and Jim Hunter's card within that set carries the weight of the name that would become inseparable from the Oakland Athletics dynasty of the early 1970s and from the Hall of Fame career that followed.

⚾ Jim Hunter was born April 8, 1946, in Hertford, North Carolina — a small city in the tidewater region of the Albemarle Sound whose most famous athletic son would go on to win three consecutive World Series championships and earn induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Hunter grew up hunting and fishing in the North Carolina countryside, and the name that would follow him through his entire professional career — Catfish — was given to him by Oakland Athletics owner Charlie O. Finley before the 1965 season as a marketing invention that stuck: Finley created a backstory about Hunter arriving late to his signing because he had been out catching catfish, and the nickname became so ingrained in the baseball world that most fans who watched him pitch never knew him by anything else.

⚾ Hunter's career with the Kansas City and then Oakland Athletics produced some of the most memorable pitching performances of the era, including a perfect game on May 8, 1968 — one of the rarest achievements in the history of the sport — and three consecutive World Series championships with the Oakland dynasty in 1972, 1973, and 1974. When Hunter became a free agent after the 1974 season in a landmark contract dispute, his signing by the New York Yankees set a then-record for baseball contracts and established him as one of the most valuable pitchers in the game. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987. A PSA 6 Excellent graded 1969 Topps card of Catfish Hunter connects its owner to one of the most beloved players of his era in a card from one of vintage baseball's most celebrated sets. Condition: NOS.
